ISDN

Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) is a newer and more advanced phone system. It utilizes digital phone lines and switching equipment to create connections with a much higher bandwidth than convential phone lines. It is available as either a 1-Channel or 2-Channel connection with maximum data rates of 64,000 & 128,000 bps respectively. This new type of phone service is available now from Ameritech although it is still quite expensive to use for casual Internet users. For residential users it costs around $150 to set up and then $40 dollars/month. For business lines these prices are even higher.
